Terms of use

Last updated November 1, 2026

These terms are the agreement between you and LocalBraid when you use our website and app. By creating an account or booking, you agree to them. Please read them, especially the sections on bookings and payments.

About LocalBraid

LocalBraid is an online marketplace that helps clients find and book independent hair braiders. LocalBraid is operated by Erika Wise LLC.

LocalBraid does not provide braiding services. Braiders on LocalBraid are independent business owners, not our employees or agents. Each braider is responsible for her own services, prices, schedule, studio, licenses, taxes and conduct. The agreement for a service is between the client and the braider.

Your account

  • You must be 18 or older to create an account. Parents or guardians book for children.
  • Give accurate information and keep your password private. You are responsible for activity on your account.
  • One person per account. Don't create accounts for someone else without their permission.
  • We may suspend or close accounts that break these terms or put others at risk.

Booking a braider

  • When you send a request, the braider has until the time shown to accept or decline. If she doesn't respond in time, the request expires.
  • A booking is confirmed only when the braider accepts it. You'll get a confirmation in the app and by email.
  • Prices shown are set by the braider and calculated from the size, length, add-ons, hair and any travel fee you choose. Final prices can change only if you and the braider agree to change the service.
  • Show up on time with your hair prepared as the braider asks. Tell the braider about allergies, sensitivities or anything that affects your appointment.
  • Kids appointments require a parent or guardian to stay for the whole appointment.

Payments, deposits and cancellations

  • During our pilot, LocalBraid does not process payments. Deposits may be shown on a booking, but you pay the braider directly, in the way she accepts.
  • Each braider sets her own deposit and cancellation rules and should explain them on her profile or in messages. Disputes about payment, deposits or refunds are between the client and the braider, though we're happy to help you talk it through.
  • You can cancel a booking in the app. Please give as much notice as possible.
  • When online payments launch, we'll update these terms and show you the payment terms before you pay.

Rules for braiders

If you offer services on LocalBraid, you also agree to:

  • Describe your services, prices, photos and qualifications honestly. Only post photos of your own work, with permission from the people in them.
  • Hold any licenses or permits your work requires and follow health and safety laws.
  • Keep your hours and calendar current and respond to requests on time.
  • Respect clients' privacy. Use client information only to provide your services.
  • Follow the Kids safety rules: no child's face in any photo or video, parent approval for Kids photos, and no children on lives.
  • Follow plan terms. Paid plans renew until you cancel; you can move to a lower plan anytime from your dashboard.

"Certified" means LocalBraid reviewed a braider's work. "Licensed" means we checked a state license she gave us. Neither is a guarantee of any result.

Your content

You own the photos, videos, reviews, messages and posts you add ("your content"). By posting content on LocalBraid, you give us a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, display and share it on LocalBraid and in our marketing of LocalBraid (for example, featuring a braider's portfolio photo). You can delete your content at any time; copies may remain for a short time in backups.

You promise that you have the right to post your content and that it doesn't break the law or anyone's rights.

What's not allowed

Don't use LocalBraid to:

  • Post anything illegal, hateful, harassing, threatening, sexual, violent or misleading.
  • Show a child's face, or include a child's name, school or location.
  • Post fake reviews, review yourself, or pay or pressure anyone for a review.
  • Take bookings or payments off LocalBraid to avoid our rules or fees, or spam people.
  • Copy, scrape or interfere with the site, or try to access accounts or data that aren't yours.

We may remove content or suspend accounts that break these rules. Use Report to tell us about anything that looks wrong.

LocalBraid's content

The LocalBraid name, logo, design and our own text, images and software belong to us or our licensors. You may use the site for your personal use, but you may not copy, sell or reuse our content without written permission.

Disclaimers

LocalBraid is provided "as is" and "as available." We don't guarantee that the site will always be available or error-free, or that any braider, client or service will meet your expectations. We aren't responsible for the services braiders provide, for anything that happens at an appointment, or for products, hair or other items used during a service. Ask your braider about any allergies or sensitivities before your appointment.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, LocalBraid and its owners, employees and partners are not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for any loss arising from services provided by braiders or from dealings between users. Our total liability for any claim related to LocalBraid is limited to the greater of $100 or the amount you paid LocalBraid in the 12 months before the claim.

Indemnity

You agree to cover any claims, losses and costs (including reasonable attorneys' fees) that arise from your use of LocalBraid, your content, your services (if you're a braider) or your violation of these terms or anyone's rights.

Changes and ending your use

We may update these terms. If changes are important, we'll tell you in the app or by email before they take effect. If you keep using LocalBraid after that, you accept the new terms. You can stop using LocalBraid and close your account at any time. We may suspend or end your access if you break these terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, USA, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, and disputes will be handled in the courts located there. If any part of these terms can't be enforced, the rest still applies.
